Five-Wire Monitor Wiring Guide388

Five-wire monitors, typically referred to as "BNC monitors" or "coaxial monitors," are commonly used in security systems and feature a specific wiring scheme that ensures proper video transmission.

Required Equipment:* Five-wire monitor
* BNC video cable
* Power supply
* Crimping tool (optional)

Step-by-Step Wiring Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the BNC Video Cable

* If necessary, cut the BNC video cable to the desired length.
* Remove approximately 0.5 inches of the outer jacket from the end of the cable, exposing the inner shield and core.
* Twist the exposed shield to form a ring.

Step 2: Connect the Video Wire

* Slide the BNC connector onto the core of the video cable.
* Secure the BNC connector by crimping or soldering it in place.
* Connect the BNC connector to the "VIDEO" or "IN" port on the monitor.

Step 3: Connect the Power Wire

* Cut one end of the twisted-pair cable and strip the insulation off the wires, exposing approximately 0.5 inches of copper.
* Connect the positive wire (typically red) to the "+" terminal on the monitor's power input.
* Connect the negative wire (typically black or ground) to the "-" or "GND" terminal on the monitor's power input.

Step 4: Connect the Coaxial Shield

* Wrap the twisted-pair cable's shield around the exposed shield on the video cable.
* Secure the shield by crimping or soldering it in place.

Step 5: Connect the Audio Wire (Optional)

* If the monitor has audio input, cut the other end of the twisted-pair cable and strip the insulation off the wires.
* Connect the first pair of wires (typically white and red) to the audio input terminals on the monitor.
* If more audio channels are present, connect the additional wires to the corresponding input terminals.

Step 6: Connect the Power Supply

* Plug the power supply into a power outlet.
* Connect the power supply to the monitor's power input.

Step 7: Test the Monitor

* Power on the monitor.
* If the monitor displays a video signal, the wiring is complete and the monitor is operational.

Troubleshooting Tips:* If no video is displayed, check the connections at the BNC connector and power input.
* Ensure that the monitor is set to the correct input mode (video or audio).
* Try using a different BNC cable or video source.
* If the monitor powers on but does not display any video, it may be a hardware issue and should be inspected by a qualified technician.
