How to Fold Origami Cranes: A Detailed Guide224
Origami, the ancient Japanese art of paper folding, has fascinated people worldwide for centuries. Among its countless creations, the origami crane holds a special place as a symbol of peace, hope, and good luck. Folding a crane may seem daunting at first, but it's a rewarding pursuit that can be mastered with patience and guidance.
Step 1: Materials and Preparation
To fold an origami crane, you'll need a single square sheet of origami paper. Choose a paper with a size that suits your desired crane size. For beginners, a 15cm x 15cm square is a good starting point.
Before starting, crease the paper diagonally by folding it from one corner to the opposite corner. Unfold and repeat with the other diagonal. These creases will serve as folding guides later.
Step 2: Initial Folding
Bring the top and bottom edges of the paper together to form a triangle. Create a central valley fold by folding the triangle in half. Unfold and repeat with the other diagonal, resulting in an "X" shape.
Tuck the top and bottom corners of the triangle into the center "X" to form a diamond shape. Fold the left and right sides of the diamond inward, meeting at the center.
Step 3: Creating the Wings
Fold the top corner of the rhombus down towards the bottom. Flip the paper over and repeat on the other side. These will become the crane's wings.
Open up the top of each wing and fold it outward at a 45-degree angle. Flatten the wing and tuck the loose corner into the pocket on the wing's base.
Step 4: Shaping the Body
Lift the bottom flap of the body and fold it up along the base of the wings. Tuck the pointed end into the body to secure it.
Repeat on the other side, and pull out the wings slightly to give the crane a more natural shape.
Step 5: Forming the Head and Neck
Fold the top corner of the body down to form a triangle. Lift the bottom corner of this triangle and fold it up towards the top to create the neck.
Turn the neck to one side and slightly flatten it to form the crane's head.
Step 6: Shaping the Tail
Unfold the bottom of the body and fold the left and right corners up towards the center to form a diamond.
Lift the bottom point of the diamond and fold it up to meet the top point. Tuck the loose corner into the pocket at the base.
Step 7: Final Touches
Spread the wings of the crane gently to give it a more graceful appearance.
Fold the tips of the wings slightly upwards to add a touch of elegance.
Congratulations! You have successfully folded an origami crane. With practice and perseverance, you can continue folding these beautiful symbols of peace and hope to share with others.
